I am an early adopter of technology but for over a decade I couldn’t be convinced that my clients needed another app on their smartphones to reach their agents. I tried to keep an open mind however, I just didn’t find the top reasons for an app compelling.

Hey business owner. You’re running a business; your concern is finally going but suddenly it gets interrupted by an event. An unexpected event like smoke rising up into your clothing store renders all the clothes unsellable at least not unless you foot the ridiculous dry cleaning bill which forces you to change the price tags from new to used. Fire may have started at a business close by but we all know smoke rises.
On top of business interruption claims due to COVID-19, claims for damages or closures due to the actions of civil authorities are now likely to increase. By Rosalie Donlon As much of the United States convulses in response to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man in the custody of Minneapolis police officers, it’s some comfort to know that property damage caused by rioting, civil commotion and vandalism are covered under standard insurance policies, says Loretta Worters, vice president, media relations for the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).
Here is an overview of the different kinds of policies and coverage that may be involved in any claims. Insured that don’t have the right kind of coverage now can use this information to discuss options with an insurance agent or broker. Related: How insurers are responding to rising political risks After hurricane Florence floods recede, the journey to restoration begins. Typically the cost of building materials are slightly higher after a storm but “home builders and contractors say this administration’s trade policy will add to the price increases that usually follow natural disasters” writes Nelson D. Schwartz in the New York Times.
When criminals look for a potential victim, they choose the easiest targets. Some simple practices can aid in deterring robberies, such as:
Insurance! Its that thing you wish you had when the unexpected happens by way of loss or damage to your personal property. Policies are typically designed to cover many things while at the same time specific language in the policy excludes coverage for other things. Policies are typically summarized with words, including terminologies that need to be defined in the definition section and of course specific numbers.
So one of your employees is taking out the garbage. He/she has done this countless times. Pulls the bags up the basement access, up the sidewalk access and onto the street, except that last friday on the way up, the basement access door suddenly slams on his/her right hand and just like that, you have an employee injury on your hands. Your employee suffers three broken fingers (middle, ring and pinky). Sounds like fiction? Think again. I do this everyday.
New York City is a popular destination for events and our team insures it’s fair share of events happening all over this great city. So this summer, as you attend any event – Fundraisers, Sporting events, Concerts, and conferences, remember the liability exposures as you have a good time.
According to the Bible account, in the book of Genesis, Seth, the third son of Adam and Eve, besides Cain and Abel, lived till age 912. I can’t seem to wrap my mind around living through multiple centuries. 912 looks more like a house number to me than the age of a living breathing human being, but maybe we are not too far off today. Consider Aubrey de Grey, a molecular biologist who has proposed that all we need do is tackle the physical deterioration among other things and we may live till age 1000, a scientific journey that he is personally on. Now imagine that birthday cake!
If you live in the city or listen to the news you will hear and read scores of headlines about rent stabilized apartments and the impending rent increases with the expiration of the existing law. The homes of many New Yorkers hangs in the balance and the seriousness has been stressed by both the Governor Cuomo and the City’s Mayor De Blassio who’s exact words were “a failure to renew the rent regulations would be an “end to New York City as we have known it.”
